How to use it
Choose an unencrypted PDF, enter an open password, optionally an owner password, then Process PDF and Download. Passwords are cleared from the form after processing and are never sent to the server.
Example
Encryption is real AES via a pdf-lib fork with Web Crypto. The UI alone is not treated as protection.
Input
notes.pdf with open password secret
Result
notes-protected.pdf that requires the password to open
How it works
The document is encrypted before save. The tool verifies the result reports as encrypted. Default algorithm is AES-256 revision 6. Some older readers cannot open AES-256 PDFs.
Common errors
- The file was already encrypted Unlock it first, then protect again if you need a new password.
- A blank password was refused Enter at least one character.
- An old reader cannot open the file That reader may lack AES-256 support. Try a current viewer.
Limitations
Permissions beyond open/owner passwords are not exposed as a full rights editor. Passwords are limited to 64 characters. Files over 15 MB are refused.
Privacy
The file stays in your browser. PepsTools does not upload it, store it, or send it to another service. Clear the tool or leave the page to drop it from memory.
Questions
Do you store the password?
No. It stays in memory only while the page builds the encrypted download.
