Add Page Numbers

Stamp a page number on each page, with a position, a format, and a margin you choose.

Add Page Numbers workspace

How to use it

Open a PDF. Choose a corner or a center, a format, and a margin from 8 to 72 points. Build PDF downloads the stamped file. {n} is the page index starting at 1. {total} is the page count.

Example

The number is drawn on top of the page. It does not replace text that is already in the content stream.

Input

bottom center, {n} / {total}, 24 pt

Result

Each page reads 1 / 4, 2 / 4, and so on, 24 points in from the bottom center.

How it works

Helvetica is embedded and the string is drawn in PDF-lib at the margin you set. Bottom positions sit the margin above the bottom edge. Top positions sit the margin below the top edge. The three formats are the literal patterns in the menu. No other pattern is interpreted.

Common errors

  • The number collides with a footer Increase the margin, or pick a corner that is empty.
  • The margin was rejected Use a whole number of points from 8 through 72.
  • You wanted Roman numerals Only the three formats in the menu are supported.

Limitations

The stamp uses one font size and one dark color. It does not skip the first page, and it does not know about facing-page layouts. Encrypted PDFs and files outside the 15 MB or 200 page limits are refused.

Privacy

The file stays in your browser. PepsTools does not upload it, store it, or send it to another service. Clear the tool or leave the page to drop it from memory.
