Percentage Calculator workspace

How to use it

Choose the calculation, enter X and Y, and calculate. Division by zero is refused. Empty input is reported as a missing number rather than treated as zero.

Example

15% of 80 is 12. The other modes use the same two boxes with different meanings, which the menu names.

Input

15, 80

Result

12

How it works

Percent of multiplies Y by X divided by 100. Ratio divides X by Y and multiplies by 100. Change divides the difference by the starting value. Increase and decrease add or subtract X percent of Y. Results are rounded to six decimal places and trailing zeros are removed.

Common errors

  • The whole value is zero A ratio needs a non-zero whole value. The page says so instead of showing infinity.
  • The starting value is zero Percentage change from zero is undefined here.
  • You expected a fraction The result is a decimal number, not a reduced fraction.

Limitations

The calculator does not do compound interest schedules or tax tables. Very long numbers are rejected. Rounding at six decimal places can hide a smaller remainder.
