Discount Calculator

From an original price and a discount percent, show the amount saved and the price you pay.

Discount Calculator workspace

How to use it

Enter the original price and the discount percent, then Calculate. The discount must be from 0 through 100. A negative price is refused. Empty fields are reported instead of being treated as zero.

Example

15% off 80 is a saving of 12 and a final price of 68. Decimal prices and percents are kept.

Input

80, 15

Result

Saved 12. Final price 68.

How it works

The saving is the price multiplied by the percent and divided by 100. The final price subtracts that saving from the original. Values use the same decimal rounding as the percentage calculator: six decimal places, then trailing zeros are removed.

Common errors

  • The discount was 110 A discount above 100 percent is refused. This page does not model a price that becomes negative from the percent alone.
  • The price was blank Enter a number. A blank is not zero.
  • You expected currency symbols Type the amount as a number. A leading dollar sign is not part of the value.

Limitations

The calculator does not add tax, shipping, or a second stacked coupon. It does not round to a currency’s minor unit unless the result already lands there. Very long numbers are rejected.

Privacy

The numbers you type are calculated in your browser. PepsTools does not receive them or store them.

Questions

Is 10.5% of 19.90 exact?

The result is the decimal value rounded to six places. Check a price that must match a cash register to the cent.
