How to use it
Paste JSON and choose Convert. Strings that could be confused with booleans, numbers, or YAML punctuation are quoted.
Example
An object with a list becomes a YAML mapping and sequence.
Input
{"name":"Ada Lovelace","fields":["mathematics","computing"],"born":1815}
Result
name: Ada Lovelace
fields:
- mathematics
- computing
born: 1815
How it works
The tool parses JSON, then writes mappings and sequences with two-space indentation. It does not call a remote formatter.
Common errors
- The JSON parser reports an error Fix the JSON first. YAML is produced only after the document parses.
- A string gained quotes Quotes are added when the text would otherwise be read as a number, boolean, or special YAML token.
Limitations
Anchors, tags, and custom schemas are not produced. Key order follows the JSON object. This is a JSON-compatible YAML subset, not a full YAML 1.2 linter.
Privacy
The text you paste is processed in your browser. PepsTools does not receive it, store it, or send it to another service.
Questions
Is the YAML safe to load in every language?
It uses ordinary mappings, sequences, and scalars. Loaders that treat yes or no as booleans are outside this subset. This tool writes true, false, and null explicitly.
