How to use it
Choose Encode or Decode. Turn on URL-safe when the value uses - and _ instead of + and /. Invalid characters and a bad length are reported instead of returning a partial result.
Example
The word PepsTools encodes to UGVwc1Rvb2xz.
Input
PepsTools
Result
UGVwc1Rvb2xz
How it works
Encoding uses UTF-8 bytes. Decoding checks the alphabet and padding before it returns text. URL-safe mode translates the URL alphabet and accepts omitted padding.
Common errors
- The decoder says the alphabet is invalid Standard mode rejects - and _. Switch on URL-safe or restore + and /.
- The length is invalid Base64 groups contain four characters after padding. A remainder of one character cannot be decoded.
Limitations
The tool handles text, not arbitrary binary downloads. A decoded value that is not UTF-8 is rejected. It does not contact a remote encoder.
Privacy
The text you paste is processed in your browser. PepsTools does not receive it, store it, or send it to another service.
Questions
Does decoding prove the data is trustworthy?
No. Base64 is an encoding, not a signature or encryption.
