Word Counter

Count words, characters, sentences, paragraphs, and a rough reading time while you type.

Word Counter workspace

How to use it

Paste or type text. The counts update from the Count button and as you type. Empty text is a valid input and shows zeros, except that reading time stays at zero until there is at least one word.

Example

A short two-paragraph note with 10 words. Reading time uses 200 words per minute and rounds up to at least one minute when there is any text.

Input

PepsTools counts words.

It keeps the text in your browser.

Result

Words: 10
Characters: 59
Without spaces: 49
Sentences: 2
Paragraphs: 2
Reading minutes: 1

How it works

Words are split on whitespace. Characters include spaces. Sentences are split on periods, question marks, and exclamation marks. Paragraphs are separated by a blank line. Reading time divides the word count by 200.

Common errors

  • A URL was counted as one word There is no space inside it, so it is one word.
  • The sentence count looks low Abbreviations and decimal points can split or join sentences. The splitter is deliberate and simple.

Limitations

The counter does not detect language, grade level, or keyword density. Reading time is an estimate, not a test score. Input is limited to 500,000 characters so the page stays responsive.

Privacy

The text you paste is processed in your browser. PepsTools does not receive it, store it, or send it to another service.

Questions

Are the counts stored?

No. They are calculated in the page and discarded when you leave or clear the box.
