How to use it
Paste text and Hash text, or choose a file and Hash file. Copy the digest from the result box.
Example
SHA-256 is a hash, not encryption. Inputs over 40 MB are refused.
Input
PepsTools
Result
The SHA-256 hex digest of that UTF-8 string
How it works
crypto.subtle.digest computes SHA-256 over the bytes. Text is encoded as UTF-8.
Common errors
- A 50 MB file was refused Stay within 40 MB or hash it with a local CLI tool.
- Web Crypto is missing Update the browser.
Limitations
There is no HMAC mode and no streaming progress UI for multi-gigabyte files.
Privacy
The text you paste is processed in your browser. PepsTools does not receive it, store it, or send it to another service.
Questions
Can I decrypt a SHA-256 digest?
No. Hashing is one-way. This page never calls the digest encryption.
